This collaboration forms part of Re-Rooted: Liberating Colonial African Collections Through Indigenous Knowledge Systems, a wider project developed in partnership with:
The Women’s History Museum of Zambia
Horniman Museum and Gardens, London (UK)
GRASSI Museum Leipzig (Germany)
This project is funded by TheMuseumsLab CollabFund.
Re-Rooted asks a central question:
What does decolonising look like in actual museum workflows and how can it be implemented in sustainable and accountable ways?
As part of this project, artists will contribute through a short-term, practice-based collaboration centred on a specific portion of either the Egyptian collections at the Horniman Museum or the Mozambican collections at the GRASSI Museum Leipzig. Artists will be invited to explore these collections with access to documentation, archives and museum staff.
Application Deadline: 9 March, 2026
