We’re seeking Balinese experts with deep knowledge of Klungkung’s royal, ritual, and artistic traditions to help investigate the provenance of this 19th-century ivory singa (winged lion) box, collected by the Dutch W.O.J. Nieuwenkamp in 1925 — and to begin a conversation on ethical repatriation.
According to oral history, the object was used for ritual offerings at Pura Balé Agung by the royal palace of the Dewa Agung.
