Critical view on colonial loot exhibition in Amsterdam

[ in Dutch ] In a exhibition on colonial looting at Wereldmuseum Amsterdam, looking beyond the colonial perspective turns out to be anything but easy.

Niels Mathijsen writes:

The questions posed in this exhibition are challenging, the information offered is interesting.

It also makes one curious about the story of the descendants from communities of origin, and that side in particular is made little palpable.

The re-humanisation or return of human dignity that South-African professor Ciraj Rassool talked about at the opening, is unfortunately not seen in practice.

A lack, especially for a wider audience, because that perspective makes the essence of looting and restitution so crystal clear.
