In his essay entitled “Catastrophic Art” in Public Culture, ethnologist Fazil Moradi has criticized such unilaterally from the global north from certain priorities of knowledge acquisition.

According to him, provenance research is nothing more than a visualization of colonial structures that are instrumentalized to give museums a greater control over their collections, which temporarily had an ambivalent status.
