The fragment was about to be auctioned off in Spain six years ago. Although it was pulled from the auction in 2017, it took until last month for the Spanish justice system to rule in favour of returning it to Mexico.
So far, more than 13,000 cultural pieces have been recovered.
At the same occasion, a Spanish citizen also volunteered three pre-Columbian statuettes from her private collection for repatriation to Mexico.
