École du Louvre launches a UNESCO Chair

The chair, which will be launched on 22 June 2026, will address issues related to illicit trafficking, restitution and the management of collections originating from colonial contexts.

The chair aims to develop shared provenance research methods and to train professionals capable of overseeing acquisitions and supporting heritage policies.

It builds on initiatives launched in 2023 and brings together several international institutions, including the Institut national d’histoire de l’art, the Centre Marc Bloch and the Musée des Civilisations d’Abidjan.

Founded in 1882, École du Louvre is a public higher education institution dedicated to art history, archaeology and museology, located within the Louvre Palace.
