Indonesian treasures returned by the Netherlands find their homeland

[ in French ] Indonesia is pursuing a process of complete repatriation of cultural works looted during the colonial period. By mid-December, 828 objects had been returned by the Netherlands, according to the Indonesian Heritage Agency.

Thousands of stolen cultural objects are still abroad, in the Netherlands and other countries, and additional research will be needed to repatriate them. No other restitution is planned from the Netherlands, but Dwi Cahyono says he “always looks forward to the return of other goods, and this remains a priority, because these objects are essential to strengthening our cultural heritage”.
