OBA Ewuare II speaks on Benin Royal Museum and the controversial MOWAA

Oba Ewuare II today, during a courtesy visit to the Government house spoke explicitly on the proposed plan to build Benin Royal Museum which the past Governor of the state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki converted to EMOWAA and later MOWAA.

Your excellency, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, we are there for constraint to throw light on the lingering controversy  surrounding the museum called Museum of West African Arts with My house which was originally conceived as Bin Royal Museum.
As a diplomat, I carried on the struggle of my fathers for the return of the artifacts to the palace to far corners of the globe because I was fortunate to serve my country in several countries.
On my second coronation anniversary, he was called to make some remarks and surprise everyone when he informed us that he had been meeting with the Beno group, some museums and international donors who were already cooperating with him for the setting up of the Benin Museum and that he has invited them to Benin for the next meeting.

Protesters storm the new multi-million dollar museum.

Videos showed a group insulting foreign guests and ordering them to leave after entering the grounds of the Museum of West African Art (Mowaa) in Benin City.

They were angry that the museum was not called the Benin Royal Museum and was not under the control of the Oba, the area’s traditional king.

The EU, German, Dutch and Belgian ambassadors paid a courtesy visit to he Oba to intimate home of their presence in Benin City to attend the preview arts in the museum of West African Arts MOWAA. The Oba discussed the issue of trust between his father, himself and the colonising countries, and the relationship between the Royal Court, the Edo State Government and the MOWAA.
