[in French] The metaphor of “objects as ambassadors” - used to refer to Kanak objects originating in New Caledonia and currently kept outside the territory, and sometimes returned there temporarily for exhibitions, arises in a context of institutional decolonisation and the aspiration for full Kanak sovereignty, with New Caledonia remaining a sui generis French overseas collectivity.
Experts in Basel have found four plant collections belonging to the two naturalists Fritz and Paul Sarasin that were thought to be lost. Until now, scientists had assumed that these pocket herbaria were destroyed in Berlin during the Second World War.
